Friday, August 20th, 2010Those lucky guys at music radar have been chatting up with Joe Satriani about his upcoming album Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards and he’s been kind enough to give them a little commenting for each of the 11 tracks on the album, here’s an excerpt:
Premonition -
A dynamite opener that blasts out of the gate at a breakneck pace. A surging, ominous yet majestic epic in which the imposing weight of the guitar frequencies could move air. The breakdown section is tough as a rusty piece of chain, followed by overwhelming waves of shred.
Joe Satriani says:
“It was written very quickly, although it sounds like it might have been composed in sections. It was about that feeling you get when you feel that something is not right. It doesn’t let up. It’s kind of nightmarish, in a way.
“The guitar tone is different than what people might expect, and in that regard, this is one of my ‘black swans.’ The expression ‘black swan’ is one that’s very old, and basically it means ’unlikely things’ – images, occurrences, extreme rarities in life. I love how Premonition sets the tone for the album – you don’t know what’s coming next.”

New Joe Satriani: Black Swans And Wormhole Wizards
Friday, August 20th, 2010I’m a wee bit late with the news as I was busy doing other things yesterday (like playing guitar, a guy’s gotta have his priorities right? 
) but at least I can now make a complete post about all the announcements made about this.
Back in May, I mentioned an interview where Joe was talking about his upcoming album. Well it’s been a few months but we now have a name for it: Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards, and it’s due for release in the UK on 04 October 2010 and on 05 October 2010 in the US. Personally I don’t think the title is much weirder than Professor Satchafunkilus And The Musterion of Rock but that’s just me. Anyway, we even have the cover for it so here it is:
Upcoming Paul Gilbert Album: Fuzz Universe
Saturday, May 1st, 2010Only yesterday I was thinking, it’s the end of April and so far in 2010 we’ve heard almost nothing about what Paul Gilbert is up to musically speaking. It felt a little anti climatic after the streak of activity since releasing Silence Followed By A Deafening Roar in 2008. There was the tour with Satch immediately after, then the release of United States with Freddy Nelson and the European tour with clinics in the Autumn, then in 2009 we had the short concert with Racer X at NAMM and then the much welcome reunion tour with Mr Big. More Mr Big news were hoped / expected for this year but so far we’ve not had much, they all seem to be back to doing their own things.
So it was a relief to wake up this morning to the much welcome news brought, as always, by the much resourceful Jenn, that Paul Gilbert is due to release a new (apparently instrumental once again) album, on 23rd June this year called Fuzz Universe.
There’s no cover art available nor is there a track list yet but I’ll be sure to update this once this becomes available. For now the CD with its usual companion DVD is available for preorder at HMV Japan (not CD Japan, which explains why I’ve not heard about it from them).
