Man I think I’m stealing licks without realising it. I’ve been doing more experimentation with using bends in the stuff I play and it turns out quick double bends sound great. Only they also sound familiar, very familiar, so if they pop up in the video I’ll eventually make and you think that’s one of yours, please don’t be offended, I’m just coming up with stuff that I like the sound of.
Speaking of which, I’m starting to favour certain notes within the scale which have great potential as what I’d call “colour notes”. I’d say blue note but I’m not actually playing diminished 5ths as I’m not quite sure how to bring them out in a way that does them justice, so it’s not blue notes but (apparently) 9ths (which I’d call 2nds but it seems not) and 6ths. It’s not quite structured but I can follow more or less the pattern set by the chord progression. I just need to pour a little more heart into it but I fear this is a much longer process than I have time for at the minute.
Listening to other examples of blues, there seems to be quite a few double stops. Now I tried to experiment with them last time but for whatever reason, I can’t seem to find the right kind to use at the right time, it just sounds like some misplaced buzz as if someone trying to get in your flat in the least appropriate moment. I’m toying with the idea of finding licks I can borrow and see if they would fit in, but I’m worried it would sound too artificial…
Advice?
