Guitar practice log, making some noize

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

After seeing it announced on Twitter (can’t remember by whom) and seeing Mark’s awesome entry earlier today, I decided to have a look at the Guitarnoize.com “Blue Noize” competition. I don’t normally go for competitions, my level is so low, that you couldn’t expect me to compete with the kind of level that goes on in these competitions. I certainly wouldn’t ever bother with all the shreddy ones as the best thing I can shred at the moment seem to be vegetables :-P . However, anti-shred ones like this are more approachable as they want you to focus on feel and phrasing rather than speed.

So after checking it out more closely, it turns out the backing track you have to record yourself over is in C minor. Perfect timing, this way I can find some purpose with studying this particular scale. So tonight, after toodling along some technical exercises, I had a couple of plays over the track using some ideas I’ve been having lately. Things are still a bit rough but I’m reasonably comfortable playing something half decent. Certainly my wife didn’t leave the room in a hurry covering her ears ;) So I’ll keep playing over it and hopefully find some time to do a bit of recording.
