Hey folks,
I haven't written there for a while but today was a bit special so I thought I'd give a bit of an insight to things that can happen to you for the first time. Even when you're 30 ;-)
The First First Timer was a visit to old colleagues of mine as a customer. Steph and I have been talking for months about when we should be looking at buying our own place. I've never been much into the Property Craze that is running in the UK simply because I'm one of these people that just want to buy some place and live there 'till I die. Unfortunately, it seems that no matter how hard you try, it just won't work that way.
So we went to Ethical Futures to discuss scary (for me) things like how to get a mortgage and with that a First Property (since it won't be ideal to begin with anyway). I feel a little out of touch with these things. Until now I can't say I was able to sit down and talk seriously about mortgages thinking we could in fact afford one. I won't get into the details but we're now having to find a solicitor (the bit I was hoping to avoid, damn politicians) and after that, something to buy, which will be tricky as there are areas of Edinburgh I just will not live in.
The second "First Timer" was my very first guitar lesson with Mark McGuigan at mastertheguitar.co.uk. I would not admit it to myself but I was a wee bit nervous about it. When you've been playing on and off for 15 years and have the kind of (low) level that I have, you should be ashamed to put yourself in public (which I wouldn't do anyway, the web maybe but in due time...). So it was a good introductory lesson and I'm already starting to see new things I want to practice and expand from. Mark's a really nice guy and really easy to work with and I'm looking forward to my next lesson with him.
Now I have to set myself fun sessions with this new material I have. Unfortunately, it will have to wait Monday (see Calendar). One thing I should probably do come to think of it is write down my goals and some proto-timescale for them. I say "proto" because I am not trying to be the next best thing the day after tomorrow, I just want to enjoy myself thoroughly when I play and hopefully one day I'll be good enough to play for and with others. If I ever come up with listenable compos, I'll be sure to post samples here ;) Don't look for me on youtube though, that's not really my thing... Last update : 31-08-2007 01:34
